Knowledge Braid was founded by Steven Yates, a PhD-qualified instructional designer with over 20 years of experience across eight countries.

It started with an unusual problem: how do you teach self-defence to students in remote locations, where traditional training simply wasn't possible? That challenge led to pioneering work in online skills-based learning at a time when most believed it couldn't be done, which became the subject of peer-reviewed academic papers and international conference presentations.

Since then, Steven has led digital learning teams at Monash University for over a decade, built 80+ courses for a global software company across four countries, and designed training programs for organisations ranging from the Australian Defence Force to Cochlear, ANZ, and CPA Australia with well over 200 courses created.
